COMING NEXT: "THE BAREFOOT BAR GANG" ....... BUT FIRST...

From the 10,000+ recordings in the Territorial Airwaves archives, we always bring you music from various decades of Hawaiian music history!

In this show, we'll feature music from the 1950s. This time, we'll share the music of "Alfred Apaka"! We'll remember that just over 50 years ago, at 11;25 AM, on July 30, 1960, Alfred Aholo Apaka, formerly known as, Alfred Aiu Afat, died suddenly while playing paddle ball at the Central YMCA! His death came at the peak of his exploding career. A TV pilot project starring Alfred had just been sold to a sponsor, assuring him of National TV exposure. Alfred Apaka appeared to be on the verge of becoming a worldwide phenomena. As we observe the 50th anniversary of Alfred Apaka's death, we'll share some memorable examples of his 1950's recorded masterpieces.

THE DANNY KAPOI TRIO
Air Date 2/26/10

In this show, we'll feature music from the 1960s. This time, we'll share the music of "The Danny Kapoi Trio"! We'll remember that a former member of "The Maui Hawaiians" in the 1950s, guitarist Thomas Everett Kanaha, helped form a new Maui group in the 1960s! Leader Danny Kapoi played ukulele and percussion, while Nicholas "Bla" Awai, Jr. handled the bass. Guitarist Thomas Everett "Tutu" Kanaha guided the transition from the 1950s "Maui Hawaiians" sound to the 1960s "Danny Kapoi Trio" arrangements. Our show last week featuring the "Maui Hawaiians" set the stage for this week's show about the evolution of the Maui sound with the "Danny Kapoi Trio".

THE MAUI HAWAIIANS
Air Date 2/19/10

In this show, we'll feature music from the 1950s. This time, we'll share the music of "The Maui Hawaiians"! We'll remember that a group of Maui tour drivers were brought together in the 1950s to perform and record by Ernest G. Paschoal, President of "Paschoal's Gray Line Motor Tours"! These tour drivers had been delighting visitors to Maui by doubling as entertainers, famous for their rip-roaring, uninhibited versions of Hawaiian music classics. Fortunately, the music of these fun-loving musician-tour drivers, also known as "Paschoal's Gray Line Troubadours" has been preserved for us to enjoy. Join us as we share favorite recordings illustrating that "Maui Hawaiians" type of Hawaiian music.

Got some old Hawaiian records that you'd like to add to the show's library? 33 1/3-RPM, 45-RPM or 78-RPM? We'd be honored to receive them.
